ESCO Rolls Out Oracle in China with IT Convergence to Successfully Complete the First Phase of a Global Initiative

“We first contacted IT Convergence because we’d heard that they had specific expertise with greenfield implementations in China. We are not only pleased with their ability to support our rollout in China, but we look forward to working with them again on projects in other parts of the globe.”

Steve McCall // Information Technology Program Manager

Company Overview

ESCO Corporation is an international group of companies that manufacture engineered metals, parts, and components for industrial machinery. ESCO produces both proprietary and non-patented products that set the standard for quality wear parts. The company manufactures specialized parts and components to customer specifications, and it provides services to a diverse group of resource and technology markets. ESCO was founded in 1913 and has 25 manufacturing locations situated on 6 continents.

The Challenge

ESCO decided to globally roll-out the Oracle Applications 11.5.10 in order to streamline operations and facilitate the development of a global distribution network. ESCO sought a partner that could support its strong internal IT team on a number of different aspects of this project. Specifically, ESCO needed a partner that could help them establish Business Flows in Oracle Financials and provide insights into the new features and functionalities of Oracle Manufacturing’s latest release. Given that the first phase of the roll-out was to take place at the company’s facility in Xuzhou, China, ESCO also needed a partner that had experience doing business in China.

The Solution

ITC deployed consultants to ESCO’s headquarters in Portland. ITC’s consultants provided project management guidance and helped ESCO deploying a multi-organization, multi-language instance of the Oracle E-Business Suite, align local Chinese requirements with company’s global footprint and develop local Chinese equivalents for industry-specific technical forms and reports. In addition, ITC’s Development Services Center in Buenos Aires created eight custom-reports that improved ESCO’s visibility into its billing cycles and cash flow. ITC’s team traveled to ESCO’s manufacturing facility in Xuzhou, China and offered bilingual functional instruction and on-the-job training to ESCO’s local staff.
