On Monday, I co-presented a Collaborate 08 session with Melissa English. Our topic was “So Many Choices, Selecting the Right Business Intelligence Tool for Your Organization”. Melissa and I provided an overview and comparison of three products that work well with Oracle Applications: Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer, Oracle Business Intelligence Applications and Noetix Reporting Tools.
About 50 people were in the audience. From a quick show of hands, it was evident that many attendees were using an old version of Discoverer. Their questions revealed they were looking for guidance to help them select their next Business Intelligence tool. They asked about cost, performance and specific reporting functionality. Hopefully, Melissa and I provided some key points for consideration on each of the tools we reviewed which should help the attendees make the best choice for their organization.
On a personal note, client priorities caused me to have to leave the conference Monday evening so I could not attend many sessions. I was able to attend Oracle’s session on their roadmap for Business Intelligence which provided useful information. Of course leaving early meant I missed the chance to check out the exhibitors and be able to partake of the vendor’s hospitality. I do enjoy good food and an occasional alcoholic beverage. Alas, being from Chicago, I can only reminisce with my friends who are Chicago Cubs fans and say “Wait until next year!” I certainly hope to be able to attend Collaborate 09 in Orlando.
