Last week we held our webcast: “Next Generation Cloud Backup: Everything you need to Know!” and our experts answered a few questions live.
How long does it take to get Backup as a Service going? Does ITC’s BaaS offering comply with the HIPPA environment requirements?
Once an agreement and contract are signed, ITC proceeds with obtaining the necessary if needed. We will work closely with your internal IT staff to gather the necessary requirements and the data we need to deploy our solution. That’s one of our prime directives as far as being able to support our clients. And we do comply with HIPPA environment requirements.
How do backup failures get resolved?
What we do with our service desk is have a standard process and backups failures are closely monitored and corrected immediately when elements are in our control. If we have to, we get involved with our vendors, our suppliers troubleshoot the issue, we follow very strict guidelines as to how to resolve failures, and we try to get it done as quickly as possible within the SLA requirements.
We have Networker with Data Domain. Will that be supported?
Yes, absolutely. Our team is very well versed in Networker as well as Avamar, and we have a Networker element in our environment already. The basic premise, assuming you have onsite hardware and software, your DataDomain could just replicate directly to ours.
Is deduplication technology inline or post processing?
In terms of encryption, it’s in flight. If you’d like extra encryption, it will require additional licensing. Deduplication is source based, so it’s just changes segments.
How do you support hosted infrastructure services? We have the main system and server hosted by AWS as well as on premise systems needed to be protected?
The on premise ones are pretty straight forward, and the AWS, provided that Amazon grants access to your VMs hosted, we could absolutely do this.
What is the restore speed?
Most of the backups are run on some sort of local device and target media. The target media is replicated to our site, so most of the recovery will be running from your actual location. As far as recovery time it depends of the file and size – it’s sort of a moving target but we do what we can to expedite the process.
Can we continue to use our existing backup software with this solution or is it replaced by proprietary software from ITC?Can we continue to use our existing backup software with this solution or is it replaced by proprietary software from ITC?
ITC’s is flexible and can accommodate your existing backup as long as is is compatible with our use of EMC Data Domain, or EMC Avamar/Data Domain solution. Using you software, you can backups directly to Data Domain locally and then replicate back to our DC in Dallas as a DR type scenario. You can continue to use you backups solution as long as it is compatible with EMC Data Domain as the local data we install onsite, must be able to replicate to our Dallas DC
Do the EMC solutions discussed here apply to the Mainframe world or are they only for the distributed environment?
ITC’s BaaS solution is not optimal platform for mainframes. However for other products such a Data Domain, you may need to contact EMC for details
In EMC-powered BaaS solutions, is data encrypted in flight and at rest in the ITC Data Center?
Data is encrypted in transit is included and enabled by default. Encryption at rest requires an additional license.
What are the key differentiators when comparing EMC’s solutions with other similar products such as Microsoft’s StorSimple?
• EMC Avamar features source based deduplication and is always a full backup.
• Features a user friendly interface for managing backups, restores and monitoring as well reporting.
• Users can be up to speed quickly and with ITCs world class service, our clients have a win/win situation when it comes to protecting you critical data and having it available at a moment’s notice with a world class 24/7 support
How do backup failures get resolved?
ITC has an standard service desk process and backups failures are closely monitored and corrected immediately when elements are in our control
