Oracle UPK the Solution to Baby Boom Brain Drain Blues? You Bet! Find Out Why
January 1, 2010 marked the beginning of a new era for the United States. On that day, an estimated 10,000 Baby Boomers turned 65 and officially hit retirement age. According to the Pew Research Center , 10,000 more Baby Boomers will hit retirement age every day for 19 years. This generation comprises 26% of the US population, and throughout their entire lives, they have shaped the the culture that guides daily life in the USA.

Business Biggest Fear – Baby Boom Retirement = Brain Drain….

With thousands of Baby Boomers exiting the work force, businesses face losing decades of collective knowledge and experience. To avoid this, businesses must find a way to harvest this knowledge of business practices and teach it to younger workers.

Ann Macintosh of the University of Edinburgh  defines knowledge management as “the identification and analysis of available and required knowledge, and the subsequent planning and control of actions to develop knowledge assets so as to fulfill organizational objectives.” She goes on to outline problems that organizations face while organizing and disseminating this knowledge. She states that “Enterprises need to have an enterprise-wide vocabulary to ensure that the knowledge is correctly understood; [they need] to be able to identify, model and explicitly represent their knowledge; [and] to share and re-use their knowledge among differing applications for various types of users…”

Solution to the Baby Boom Brain Drain…. Oracle UPK

Fortunately, Oracle’s User Productivity Kit makes knowledge retention a simple process.

In one recording session, Oracle UPK can capture a business process and create 15 outputs. Subject Matter Experts can use the Record It! feature to easily record a process, add their notes and special instructions, then publish that content into the many outputs available. Businesses can use the standardized language inherent in all outputs to establish a form of communication across every section of the organization. See It!, Try It!, Test It!, and Do It! modes are easily deployed to any user with access to the internet. Training using these modes can be completed at the convenience of the student, and training costs are greatly reduced.

Finally, Oracle UPK is application agnostic and can record both Oracle and non-Oracle applications. As the organization grows and changes, Oracle UPK can capture the change process and deliver training to both new and experienced employees.
