A few weeks ago we presented our Webcast “The Best Path to Oracle Cloud”. The session was full of useful information for companies using Oracle E-Business Suite and want to figure out how to take the first steps toward Oracle Cloud. Below you will find all the questions that were asked at the sesion and if you want to watch the recording you can click here.
Q: What happens with my customizations if I move to the Cloud?
A: That’s a question we get all the time, when you move EBS to the Cloud or re-platform EBS into the Cloud, it is your same EBS that you know, the same customizations that you have, you are just moving it to a different platform. It is the same EBS, you are just going to manage the same things you have now but running in a different platform. So don’t worry about your customizations, don’t worry about the objects that you have in your database, everything would move as part of this Lift and Shift process.
Q: If we want to integrate with non-Oracle cloud system, say a billing system, with the EBS Financials on cloud (Move and Improve), how can this be achieved? Is it a separate license for the integration service from Oracle?
A: I’m going to talk about what the University of San Diego did to answer the question. What they did is they subscribed to the services of Expenses Reports on ERP Cloud and because they were using the integration of Web Services, they didn’t have to subscribe to any other integration service because they were using APS from EBS and Web Services from Cloud SaaS. Now, if you want to you can use Integration Cloud Service from Oracle which would require a subscription, but all this out of the box integrations that you have, like FAHRCS, you don’t have to pay extra, you just subscribe to the SaaS product that you want to use and the integration is included in that.
You could also use any other 3rd party integration tool that supports Web Services, so if you already have a non-oracle cloud integration platform, you can still leverage that to integrate Oracle Cloud Services to your 3rd party application.
Q: How do you know you’ll have all functionality that you used to have on EBS in cloud? Is there a document to list each EBS application functionality in Oracle Financial cloud application?
A: There’s documentation about the new functionalities and manuals, you can find at docs.oracle.com and go to Cloud Applications. In terms of the differences between EBS and Cloud, we typically do an assessment of that, because it depends on your business, your modules and your processes. We need to check and compare all those things that you have and match them with the business functionality and process in the Cloud that will fulfill that.
Q: What provisions are provided by Oracle for the security of data being maintained in their storage Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)?
A: When we are talking about data and database security, we are talking with the no.1 in the world. Oracle has been extremely cautious on security, as a matter of fact, they have been certified in many aspects, they have multiple data centers around the world and they have multiple levels of security. The certifications and audit that Oracle has in terms physical and logical security, exceed expectation. In terms of SaaS, SaaS is driving on top of the Oracle Infrastructure, that means security at the networking level, at the server level, not just the hardware level. They have layers of logical security sitting on top of the networking. We are partnering with Oracle, because we know security is one of their top priorities for all of their products and services.
